Fishing & Boating

If it's fishing that floats your...er...boat, you've come to the right place.

Jetty fishing

King George Whiting and Blue Swimmer Crabs are regular fare off the Port Hughes jetty, where many recreational anglers (and their kids and grandkids) congregate to watch the stunning sunsets and wet their line in the hopes of catching tomorrow night's dinner. Depending on the season, you can also catch Snapper, Tommy Ruffs, Salmon, Garfish, Squid and Snook. Jetties at nearby Moonta Bay and Wallaroo are also popular family fishing spots.

Offshore fishing and boating

Those wanting to head out in the boat and cast their line out in the open waters of the Spencer Gulf have easy access to boat ramps at Port Hughes and Wallaroo.

Larger boats head to the shipping channel where Snapper, Whiting and Snook are in abundance. Cape Elizabeth at the south of Port Hughes is a popular choice for smaller boats wanting to catch Garfish, Snapper, Snook, Whiting and, at times, Salmon. Garfish are plentiful just off the beaches and it's not surprising to see King George Whiting caught in the shallows near the sand patches. .
